Hamilton Leads FP1 and 2 at the Hungaroring

Lewis Hamilton led both sessions at the Hungaroring today but the Lotus of Kimi Raikkonen saw his challenge in FP2 blunted by heavy rain with 42 minutes to go.  Today’s session was the first time that the teams have had a (mostly) dry Friday since Valencia, something they desperately needed to assess upgrade packages.

In fact, nearly every team has had some updates between Valencia and now.  In addition to these individual updates, Red Bull has had its throttle maps banned.

Trying to guess pace based on Friday times is pretty hopeless, but Friday is a great day to find surprises.  My surprise of the day: Lotus.  Kimi Raikkonen in second overall, right behind Hamilton.  Seems like Saturday is going to be dry, sunny and hot.

I’m looking forward to it!
